Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for information.
A high-ranking political figure commented the attack left him without words and required to be addressed quickly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
