An individual who spiked candy with sleeping medication and distributed them to children at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two boys both nine and ten years old.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight children and one adult fell ill at the location in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.
Nevertheless, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was concerning a young boy.
Ruben was held in detention prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She said his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a youth camp which he managed.
Ruben conducted a "sweet game" with the children, the legal counsel explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in recently.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his stepson had concerns about the situation, for good reason.
"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."
The legal counsel explained items including lubricant, ointment and medical needles were found, and his family member notified the authorities about his worries.
She said the man proceeded to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that stage," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.
Mrs Prior explained the minors were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the stepson called the police again.
She said the man then played the "sweet game" in a room of five children.
